Chinatown and the Lower East Side of Manhattan have been and continue to be where America begins for many new arrivals to the country.  Immigrant groups, including the Irish, Germans, Jews, Chinese, and many others have left their own distinctive marks in these neighborhoods.  In recent decades, this area has become a major destination for its nightlife and its artistic spirit.  Some of the sights that will be discussed on this tour include:

-Little Italy/Italian American Museum
-Lower East Side
-New Museum
-St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral
-Tompkins Square Park
-Second Avenue/Yiddish Rialto

Tour meeting place: Chatham Square near the Kimlau Memorial Arch
