In 1626, the Dutch settled Manhattan as New Amsterdam. They could hardly know that their small town would grow to become the center of the world’s preeminent metropolis. As rule of the city transitioned from Dutch to English/British to American, new edifices were built and history made. This tour will explore the foot of Manhattan Island, taking in sights that form the foundation of what made New York what it is today. The history of this area as a trading center from the colonial era to the present time will be covered, as well as an in-depth explanation of selected Lower Manhattan skyscrapers.
